Welcome to the
Global Alternative Investment Forum: Japan
We are a supporting partner of Global Alternative Investment Forum: Japan
After more than a decade of primarily investing domestically, Japanese institutional investors are diversifying overseas, mainly as a result of the strong yen and domestic investments offering marginal returns. What do Japanese limited partners need to know as they increase their risk appetite and venture into unfamiliar overseas markets?
Global Alternative Investment Forum: Japan is the only event exclusively focused on what Japanese institutional investors and limited partners need to know about opportunities and risks to be found in global (ie ex-Japan) alternative investment strategies. The content and agenda will highlight opportunities to diversify into the illiquid asset classes, namely private equity, infrastructure, private real estate and real assets. (This is the second event in our Global Alternative Investment Forum series, with a Seoul event taking place each June.)
Topics of discussion will include:
- Global opportunities: How does uncertainty in US/European markets translate to opportunities for Japanese investors? Should investors consider other Asian markets? How do emerging markets weigh against opportunities to be found in developed markets?
- Hiring a foreign manager: What should Japanese investors look for in foreign GPs/consultant?
- Real Estate: How should Europe/US strategies differ? Does conservative core-focused in Europe offer more than higher risk, mezz/value-added/special situations in the US? How can investment be protected from currency risk over the long-term?
- Infrastructure: How can the domestic experience in infrastructure help Japanese investors?
- Fund structures: Should Japanese investors expect better terms to reflect their growing clout on the global stage?
- Cultural issues: how can the language/cultural barrier be overcome?
- Diversification: What can Japanese institutions learn from the experience of other Asian LPs that have diversified their portfolios over the past decade?
